Coaching challenges you to bring focus and encouragement

With summer time and the lowered intensity of the COVID pandemic, I am back to one of my favorite activities – swimming.

I recently joined a club along with my wife and 3 year old daughter, where we regularly enjoy playing, learning and exercising in the water.

My daughter, who was initially a little scared of the pool, has now got used to it and even jumps in the deep end of the pool (with a tube) to be with me or my wife.

Focus on both fun and learning - One of the tactics I used to help her overcome fear was to shift her focus by playing games and having fun. Once comfortable, I would deliberately leave her alone and see how she displayed courage when facing the fear by herself.

Encouragement stifles doubts and fears - Constant encouragement allowed her to embrace swimming at a faster pace. When she showed signs of fear or doubt, I reminded her that she is good and how she has already done swimming so beautifully.

Continue to challenge - I plan to teach her how to ride the bicycle next. A legitimate technique of learning is to offer support by holding the bicycle for a little while as the child continues to paddle and then withdraw the support so that the child can find their own balance. Though, it may result in a fall, but it allows the child to find the right use of their feet whenever in need.

To master swimming, one must learn how to be in the deep waters. Similarly when riding a bicycle, leaving the support wheel allows one to find the balance.

Invest in yourself - In professional coaching, similarly, a safe space is created for you to challenge, understand and explore so that you can reach your full potential. As you do so, you will witness the greatest self development.

Are you ready to jump in with me to bring out the best in you?
